Weather Stripping

Sash Weights

Sash weights can be replaced to improve the operation of your window sash and decrease the energy cost. Sash weights are made of iron or lead cylinders that are encased in a concealed cavity and attached by ropes to the moveable window sash. These weights provide counterbalance, allowing the window to be shut and opened without using mechanical or electrical devices. When they fail, sashweights are usually left unnoticed or disabled by homeowners.

It's difficult to retrieve an sash-weight which has fallen from the cavity, so you'll want to find one that fits correctly. You will also require a new piece string, a length sashcord and a few sashpulleys for tying the new weights to the cord.
